Another issue that is of vital significance is that advancements have made the time of a data superhighway a reality. Web correspondence has empowered individuals to get utilized while never leaving the nation, to have scholastic gathering conversations with researchers over the world while never leaving their own front rooms. Another model for this situation that we could discuss is cloning. For quite a long time it has been accepted that it takes a man to impregnate a lady. The entire thought of a doctor satisfying that reason therapeutically was incredible. Today it is a reality, yet with hiccups to a great extent. There is no uncertainty in the brains of numerous eyewitnesses that with time and tirelessness, the people included will make it work. Contentions about profound quality from resentful bombastic campaigners in any case, inasmuch as they keep at it, they will receive something in return (Tuomi 2002). To summarize, all variables considered, it is genuinely hard to live in the cutting edge world without being prepared to enhance or figure out how to utilize different people’s developments. The best way to evade excess out and out is to continue honing oneself through research, training, conversation and a smidgen of experimentation. Milton’s Death Beginnings and Endings in Lycidas and Paradise Lost - Literature Essay Samples

John Milton’s first encounter with death sent him reeling and kept him off balance for a long time. He found an escape in poetry, pouring out his confusion and frustration and sorrow in the now-famous poem Lycidas. The young Milton was struck with a realization of his own mortality, and spent a lot of time in the poem pondering on his tasks in life and how he could fulfill his calling. Lycidas records Milton’s turn to both Christian and pagan gods for answers and his journey with the ones he receives. Milton’s attitude towards death has changed dramatically by the time he writes Paradise Lost. Having been involved in a lengthy rebellion and watching many people die, Milton must have become adjusted to death and settled into a method of understanding. The characters of Paradise Lost face death for the first time when they eat the fruit, but leave the garden cheerfully, prepared for a long, fulfilling life of the kind they couldn’t live before. As one reads Lycidas and Paradise Lost, one can see Milton’s evolution as he came to believe that death is a tool of God because it shapes who people are and what they do with their lives. Though Milton didn’t know Edward King well, his original grief and shock is readily visible in the early lines of Lycidas. He mourns, â€Å"Now thou art gone, and never must return!† (38). Milton’s struggle to deal with King’s death is fascinating considering they barely knew each other. This line suggests that Milton’s trouble was not with King specifically, but with the reality of death facing him for the first time. He created â€Å"tensions . . . in the tragic dynamics of the poem, as between calm and reconciliation on one side and lament and questionings on the other, until finally, all passions are spent† (Brown 7). Milton’s struggle with dealing with the tragic event made Lycidas a raw, multifaceted poem that covers many of young Milton’s ideas and questions. He makes specific mention of the fact that King died young: â€Å"Lycidas is dead, dead ere his prime† (8). Milton himself was in his youth at the time of the event, and this line suggests a certain amount of self-reflection. Milton wanted to believe that he had a divine mission in this world, a purpose for being on earth. King’s death forced him to recognize that he might not get the chance to fulfil that destiny. It was this fear of failure that drove Milton to write this poem in the first place. He begins Lycidas by explaining his concerns about writing poetry so young. â€Å"Ye myrtles brown, with ivy never sere, / I come to pluck your berries harsh and crude, / And with forced fingers rude / Shatter your leaves before the mellowing year† (2-5). Worried that he’s writing too soon, Milton uses the imagery of plucking berries before they’re ripe to alert the reader to his fears. Being forced to write before he’s ready, however, is better than missing the opportunity completely because he’s dead. King’s death had a profound effect on Milton and was a major factor in spurring the poet into writing serious poetry. Milton began to recognize the importance of taking advantage of his time on earth to fulfil what he felt was his divine duty: writing an epic poem for God. King’s demise taught Milton that death shapes the lives of the living, both in the form of preparation for their own demise and as reactions to those who are gone. Milton deals with death originally as a tragic ending to the lives of those who could have given much more to the world. Throughout the poem he romanticizes King as though they had spent a lot of time together. â€Å"For we were nursed upon the selfsame hill,† he writes, â€Å"Fed the same flock, by fountain, shade, and rill† (23-4). This is patently untrue, but is extremely revealing about the way Milton lauds the dead. He continues to do so throughout the poem, casting King as a shepherd. In both Christian and pagan traditions, shepherds are known for being righteous, often heroes or even gods in disguise. David, future king of Israel, was a shepherd when he had his legendary battle with Goliath. Orpheus, Pan, and Paris were all shepherds, and other heroes such as Romulus, Remus, and Oedipus were all saved and cared for by shepherds. Christ referred to himself as the good shepherd. By casting Lycidas as a shepherd, Milton put him in a position of apparent lowliness bu t really made him a hero in disguise. By lamenting his early death, Milton implies that Lycidas was a hero like David, Orpheus, or Paris who had not yet been given the opportunity to break out of his shepherd disguise and embrace his true nature and contribution to the world. By romanticizing and lauding this man he barely knew, Milton unwittingly reveals one portion of his difficulty in dealing with death. He creates an image of King as a potential hero who never got the chance to offer himself to the world or to enact the great changes he could have had he not been taken too soon. Though this was ostensibly about Edward King, really this is all a reflection of Milton’s opinion of himself. Realizing that he could die at any moment, Milton began to worry that he would never have the chance to break out of his life as a figurative shepherd and fulfil his destiny as a great poet on a divine mission for God. He began to see the importance of acting on his opportunities immediate ly despite his fears of lack of preparation, because he might not get the chance otherwise. This experience taught Milton how much death shapes the lives of all humans; Milton, like most people, started his real work because he was faced with death. In his desperate search for answers, Milton surprises himself by going to the pagan gods to know how this could possibly have been allowed to happen. He demands, â€Å"Where were ye, nymphs, when the remorseless deep / Closed over the head of your loved Lycidas?† (50-51). Though Milton is a Christian, he doesn’t demand why God didn’t save King, he asks the nymphs. Milton’s faith at this point was less absolute than it is in Paradise Lost, when his references to pagan gods and figures are always brief and demeaning compared to the position of Christian figures. At this point, however, Milton goes to pagan gods before he goes to Christian ones, and receives no satisfactory answers. He questions â€Å"the meaning of that loss in the unfolding providential plan† (Brown 6). Believing that there is a plan and purpose for life, Milton questions how this could possibly have been the plan for King, and why it was necessary. He does not question that Lycidas was loved, so his crisis of faith did not go so far as to wonder whether there was a kind of divine power who loves humanity. He firmly believes that it true, but that to Milton does not answer why people like Edward King are allowed to die young. This question is not answered until Paradise Lost when death is allowed to enter the world and God reveals his view of death. Inevitable que stions later arise about what the point of life is if everyone is going to die no matter what. In commenting on King’s early demise, Milton complains, â€Å"Alas! What boots it with uncessant care / To tend the homely slighted shepherd’s trade, / And strictly meditate the thankless Muse?† (64-6). King spent his whole life as a shepherd not yet ready to break free of his disguise and become the hero he was meant to be. If Milton is to spend his life as a shepherd, then his life has no purpose, because he makes no real difference in the world. He will not be remembered for looking after sheep, and the world will be no different without his existence. It is Phoebus, a pagan god, who helps him at this stage of his journey and teaches him how to achieve immortality: â€Å"Fame is no plant that grows on mortal soil . . . Of so much fame in heav’n expect thy meed† (78, 84). The point of life, and the way to avoid death, is to do something worth doing so t hat he’ll be remembered for it, in earth or in heaven. It is no coincidence that the plants he references at the beginning of the poem are symbolic of immortality (Adams 184). The writing of Lycidas, and others to follow, became Milton’s way of achieving immortality. This something to be remembered for became the writing of Paradise Lost, the sum total of Milton’s life experiences and beliefs. With this background of death early on in Milton’s life, his characterization of death becomes even more fascinating in Paradise Lost. Though he could have chosen otherwise, Milton made death a character with lines, actions, and an agenda of his own throughout the poem. However, Death has no body in Paradise Lost; he can smell and taste, and is identified as a he, but he â€Å"has no body and feeds on life† (Goldsmith 69). His overriding characteristic is hunger; no matter how much death there is in the world, Death will never be satisfied. So Death is a character, but not a character; he has no regular form, but he has senses and urges. Furthermore, his shape changes; when he grows angry, he â€Å"grew tenfold / More dreadful and deform,† adding to his eerie, unearthly persona (II 706-7). At no point is Death made a sympathetic character; his insatiable hunger is repulsive and frightening. He is described as â€Å"black . . . as night, / Fierce as ten furies, t errible as Hell† (II 670-1). He is a â€Å"non-character who operates as [a] virus, spreading disease and destruction throughout the cosmos† (Goldsmith 54). To Milton, death is a force that cannot be stopped, except by the other powerful figure to whom he gives a form and a name: God. By making Death a character, Milton also gives him an identity, which means that he too can be overcome by God. God does not and cannot overcome abstract ideas such as justice, mercy, and emotion in Paradise Lost, but he does have the power to overcome every embodied figure, even if he chooses not to. Though Death’s characterization is abstract and frightening, it also makes him a person instead of an idea or inevitability, and just as we know that God can overcome Satan if he chooses, we also know that he can overcome Death. Milton also chose to make Death a part of a corrupt family by making him the son of Sin. Significantly, Death and Sin do not simply appear on the world after t he Fall: Death actually comes from Sin. Milton takes the view that dying is part of living in a fallen world, but he also makes the point that we die because we sin. However, when Death is born, he nearly kills Sin, ripping his way out of her body. Death is so powerful that he can destroy everything in his wake, including Sin. Indeed, Death wears â€Å"the likeness of a kingly crown,† again suggesting his sovereignty (II 673). Death is unstoppable, and it is useless for mortals to fight it, bemoan it, or avoid it. While being born, Death does what no human can do: overcome sin. The message here is clear: death is more powerful than any human, and can only be overcome by those very few who are not subject to it: God, the Son, and the angels, because everyone else will die. These beings are also the only ones who do not sin, and Milton’s view is that one is beneath the other. If one is not subject to death, one is not subject to sin. Though he does not appear often in the poem, Death is nonetheless a powerful and frightening presence, as he is in the lives of all mortals. His power over mortals and ability to overcome Sin establish hi m as a nearly unstoppable force who can be overcome only by the highest of celestial beings. When Death becomes a reality, God treats him like an opponent, but not an enemy; in God’s eyes, Death is an unpleasant but necessary part of the plan for his children. God states that Death must be paid, adding to the impression of the curious formlessness of Death throughout Paradise Lost. Death isn’t treated as much of a character by the celestial beings of the poem; God never interacts with him directly and speaks only of him as a debt to be paid by humanity. Death is a stand-in for justice to God. He refers to death as â€Å"the final remedy† for mankind (IV 197). Adam’s vision at the end of the poem shows him the unending mercy of God the people who repeatedly fall away and do wicked things. Adam weeps to see the horrors his posterity will do to each other, but Michael reminds him that God will send a Messiah to pay the debt and save God’s children. The one debt, in Milton’s view, that humans must pay is death. As Christ himself must die, so must all people, because death has to be paid. It is a necessary part of the plan for all people, including God’s own son, who died to fulfill the redemption of all mankind. There is clearly a power in death beyond what people are inclined to see; Christ saved everyone through death, but came back to overcome it, defeating humans’ one undefeatable foe. As one of God’s messengers, Michael comforts Adam on the subject of death and teaches him how to liv e. Upon hearing Eve’s suggestion that she and Adam commit suicide, Michael advises, â€Å"Nor love they life nor hate but what thou liv’st / Live well, how long or short permit to Heav’n† (VI 553-554). Michael has a very different perspective on death than any mortal. His advice to neither love nor hate life is intriguing because most mortals would recommend loving life, because it’s the only one we get. Michael, however, lives in heaven, and understands that there is more that comes afterwards and heaven is infinitely better than fallen Earth. Despite this knowledge, he does not tell Adam and Eve to simply wait out life until they can return to heaven, but tells them to live their lives well. Death to Michael is merely a change of scenery; when Adam and Eve die, they will return to heaven and all will be well (McElroy 17). The importance is to live well, which can be interpreted as â€Å"virtue is obedience, sin disobedience,† or living in obedience to God’s commandments and teaching their children to do the same (Erskine 580). From this trusted celestial being Milton gives one of his life philosophies: life is to be neither hated nor adored. Loving life too much can become a form of idolatry, for in being too caught up in the glories of this life it is possible to forget the importance of the next. Milton believed that everything is inherently good because it comes from God, but he also believed that everything is good because it reminds us of who God is and what he is given us, and so to focus too much on the things God has given us instead of God himself is wicked. This is why Michael tells Adam and Eve simply to live well, and by keeping God’s commandments and teaching others to do the same, they will have their reward in heaven. By the devilish characters, Death is treated with disdain, both as a person and as a concept, and Milton uses these characters to disagree with popular heroic conceptions of death. When Satan first meets Death, despite their familial relationship, the two aren’t at all allied; they feel mutual enmity and fight like â€Å"two black clouds / With heav’n’s artill’ry fraught† (II 714-5). The confrontation between the two follows the pattern of a chivalric duel between knights that would have taken place during K ing Arthur’s reign (Rovang 4). Milton follows this same mockery of traditional heroic epics (a change from his faith in the pagan gods earlier on in his life) in the garden when the serpent protests Eve’s assertion that she would die if she ate the fruit. He frames the temptation as a heroic test like those of the classic Greek epics: Eve’s willingness to risk death by eating to fruit, to him, is a sign of courage and commitment. By risking death, Eve would be proving herself a classic hero. The serpent argues that God will be impressed by her â€Å"dauntless virtue† and would never actually carry out his threat (XI 694). He also makes the cyclic argument that God would never allow anything fearful to exist, and since Eve fears death, death must therefore not exist. Because both these arguments come from the devil himself, Milton automatically invalidates them without even having to argue against them. Obviously death exists, and death is the consequence of eating the fruit, or in other words, succumbing to temptation. As aforementioned, death comes from sin, and so by partaking of the fruit and sinning, Eve opens herself up to death, and all of her posterity so far have followed her example. Milton also makes special note of the argument that death is heroic, cool, and admirable, but dismisses it, again by having Satan present it. Death to Milton is not something to be defiantly and virtuously disregarded, but something to be accepted and respected, and Satan’s blasà © attitude towards death is both hypocritical and inappropriate. After partaking of the fruit, Adam and Eve experience the same thing that Milton does in Lycidas—an understanding of death that takes away their innocence. They have no understanding of what death is while still in the Garden of Eden, and with their enlightenment comes additional fear and loss of innocence. Lycidas is essentially about Milton experiencing death for the first time and losing his childishness because of this event. He is forced to grow up and face his role in the world, and to begin writing to fulfil his destiny even though he doesn’t feel that he is ready. Adam and Eve, though still very childish in many ways, now have to grow up and accept their lot in life. The garden will no longer provide for their every need, and they will no longer live in a paradise without sin or hardship. Milton ties an understanding of death with the acceptance of the need to grow up and to see the world as it really is. By the end of the poem, Adam and Eve see death not as â⠂¬Å"a curse but a comforter, not the gift of Satan but the gift of God† (Erskine 573). Though Adam and Eve lose their innocence by partaking of the fruit, Eve wakes from a dream from God and tells Adam that she has received â€Å"propitious, some great good presaging,† a hopeful view neither of them has possessed until that moment (XII 612-3). Despite Eve’s earlier brief flirtation with the idea of suicide as a means of avoiding their punishment, Adam and Eve conclude that it is better to live and be obedient to God to improve their standing with him (Waddington 15). In this passage, Milton reveals his changed thoughts about death: he no longer begrudges death, or seeks a way to immortalize himself. Instead, he, like Adam and Eve, wishes to live fully and do what God asks of him. Though they now can die, all is not lost, and it is better to follow Michael’s advice to â€Å"live well.† Adam and Eve eventually leave the garden cheerfully, prepared to live long, full lives together. To complete his transformation of understanding of death, Milton’s own beliefs about death evolved to become more complex than the average Christian of his time, and they are reflected within his work. â€Å"In the Christian Doctrine Milton divides death into the following four degrees: the punishments which are preludes to death, spiritual death, temporal death, and eternal death† (Woelfel 33). Everyone is subject to the first three kinds of death, and these are the kind that Milton reassures his audience are okay because they can be overcome. The first two kinds of death are a result of human blindness and failure, and in order to overcome these, we need to live and work. The third is what shapes the rest of human life and drives people to either obey God or disobey him, which determines life or death of the fourth kind. â€Å"In Paradise Lost the first degree of death establishes that fallen mans happiness is transformed into misery; the second degree conveys mans h elplessness as a consequence of obscured reason; the third degree is presented as a remedy to what seems an endless punishment; the fourth degree establishes the penalty for continued disobedienceeternal punishment† (Woelfel 34). Through Adam and Eve, we experience the first three kinds of death, and through Satan we experience the fourth. By understanding and accepting that all will die in three ways, Milton makes death more commonplace and thus acceptable. He portrays all four methods of death in Paradise Lost, but it is only Satan who experiences the fourth kind. Milton’s insistence that death is a necessary and godly tool is compelling only when one chooses not to partake in the fourth kind of death and accept the existence of the others. Coming to understand all four kinds of death is a way of coming to better understand and accept death as a reality, and not necessarily a negative one. Adam and Eve left the Garden able to die, but they also left prepared to follow Michael’s advice to live well and with the increased ability to understand and reason through life instead of their open, innocent optimism at the beginning. Milton’s journey of acceptance of death is reflected throughout Paradise Lost. As a young man, he was traumatized when a classmate was killed, and spent most of the poem Lycidas wrestling with why people have to die, and what the point of life is when we are all going to die anyway. He fears and seeks ways to avoid death, or at least immortalize himself through other means. He explains his final conclusions to his audience through Adam and Eve in Paradise Lost. After they lose their innocence as Milton did, Adam and Eve fear death and try to think of ways to overcome it. Eve suggests committing suicide to keep death from affecting their children, but some timely advice by the archangel Michael convinces them that life is to be lived fully before they can return to heaven. Adam and Eve conclude that living is more important than dying, and that while death is important, the way they live (and are obedient to God’s commandments) is the far more important and worth their t ime. They choose to be â€Å"heroes of faith [who] serve to keep before us the paradox of good emerging from evil and to hold forth the possibility of redemption† (Waddington 11). Adam and Eve’s behavior is a reflection of Milton’s final statement: that death shapes our ability to live our lives, but it is important to focus on life, not death. Sweatshop Exploitation And Responsibility Of Sweatshops

Gabrielle Chan Bass Humanities 3rd Blue 12 November 2014 Sweatshop Exploitation and Responsibility Sweatshops were first well known to the public eye when several major corporations’ exploitation of workers were revealed during the late twentieth century. Sweatshops generally are factories that provide workers with socially unacceptable working conditions, especially dealing with clothing items. With the expanding apparel industries around the world, more and more corporations are using sweatshop factories to their advantage. Numerous companies claim that they are not responsible for actions of those factories from which they purchase from because it is not part of their corporation. However, action needs to be taken by the government and individual corporations to improve the working conditions in sweatshop factories. Due to the harsh working environment, insufficient pay, and other factors that cause inhumane treatment of workers in sweatshops, the US government should improve working conditions for workers, have stricter regulations on sweatshops, and strive to improve t he treatment of sweatshop workers across the globe. Sweatshop proponents argue that even though sweatshops may not provide the best working conditions for workers, it at least provides a job for those who are in desperate need of one. Employee Engagement Sainsbury

Question: Explain the term employee engagement? Answer: Definition Of Employee Engagement: The employees having the feelings of emotion regarding their work place or employment organization are known as employee engagement (Walker, 2012). These feelings of emotion towards their organization usually affect the behaviors of the colleagues, and therefore, it also affects the work level of the colleagues. Therefore, it is simple to understand the relation between the employee engagement and the effort given by the works men more the employees would be engaged with the organization, more the effort they would provide for the work done. These would help in the growth of the organization. The job types of the employees are related with the employment engagement, if the colleagues feel stimulated mentally, the communication between management and the colleagues, trust between them, the ability of the colleagues to feel the importance of their work for the organization, probability of promotion of the employees, the pride of the work men for working in the particular organization (McGee, 2011). Sainsburys aim is to be the trusted retailer in its home country, such that people love to join their organization. Sainsburys implements unique strategy to gain and retain its customers, which is possible due to the cooperation of its employees. Thus the company keeps its employees well satisfied and happy. Advantages Of Employee Engagement: Sales growth the well satisfied and happy employees of the organization can make the customers happy and satisfied, and can thus bring in more business by gaining more customers and the loyalty towards the company (Dickson, 2011). Employee engagement make the employees more targetful towards their job and make them more interested towards their job which increases the numbers of customers in each and every shop of Sainsburys and thus ultimately the sales of the company increases. Employee engagement has lead to about 26 % more growth of the annual income of the company. profitability plays a vital role in employee engagement. As the jobs are secured for the employees of Sainsburys, they are loyal to the organization and works hard for achieving the objectives of the firm. Thus profit maximization of the company takes place. There is a system of regular feedback in the company from both the employees and the customers, which help the management of the company to understand its customers and employees better regarding their feelings about the services they expect, their views about the quality of the products and many more. Even the senior most manager of the company visits all the stores once in a week to analyze the position of the company in the competitive market better (Garber, 2011). Sainsburys by performing a market research and a market survey found it that by increasing the level of engagement, the sales in all the stores generally increases and thus ultimately the profit of the company too. About 16 % growth of the company takes place yearly, due to major emphasis on the employee engagement of the company. Employee engagement customer satisfaction relationship the main aim of any organization is to make its customers fully satisfied. Now a day, there are many companies and brands for each and every product, thus consumers easily change their loyalty from one company to other. Thus company puts more emphasis on customer satisfaction. Product innovation according to the needs of the customers is one of the way of customer satisfaction. Feedback from the consumers helps the company to provide customer service and in return customer satisfaction (Dhar, Kaila and Nair, 2009). There is a system of regular feedback in the company Sainsburys from both the employees and the customers, which help the management of the company to understand its customers and employees better regarding their feelings about the services they expect, their views about the quality of the products and many more. These provides a better scope to the company for product modification and thus ultimately, customer satisfaction. Employee engagement customer retention relationship customer retention and gain of new customers are the most important part of any organization, as customers bring in the business. Likings of the products and the services of the company by the customers, results into more sales revenue and also the image of the company increases in the mind of the customers. Customers will be treated well by the employees of a particular organization, when the employees of the company are well satisfied and happy. The happiness and well satisfaction of the employees can only make the customers happy by providing them superb services (Ryde and Sofianos, 2014). Thus employee engagement and customer relationship is inter related to each other. Innovation and efficiency employee engagement is the method of engaging the employees within an organization. Thus employee engagement is related with the performance of the organization like productivity, profit, efficiency and customer service. Each of these factors is the advantages of employee engagement on one hand and also innovation on these factors can be done by the employees for betterment of the process incorporated within the organization. Innovation is the process of advancement of new technologies. If the organization helps to implement employee engagement properly, then the employees would get motivated automatically, and would start to think for growth and development of the organization, and therefore new innovative ideas would be provided by the employees and these might bring efficiency to the organization. Effect Of Demotivated And Disengaged Employees: Lack of self-respect of an employee, disregard of individual performance, lack of trust factor among the employees and scarcity of work culture among the employees cause a demonization and disengaged among the employees. Unwillingness to work perfectly makes an employee mostly underperformer ultimately it turns an employee most inefficient and lazy. Business of an organization may be affected i.e. profit of the company will fall with the callousness of the demotivated employees (Armstrong, 2013). Uninterested workers decrease retention of employee which inculcate new recruitment process as a result with the performance of new employee the output of the company becomes lesser which would affect the business of the organization. The human resource department of Sainsburys has recruited a team specialist in shrinkage for reduction of level of loss, wastage and boost of the works men to retain engaged employee engagement. Market researchers studied the relationship between retail loss and employee engagement, which indicates that about 26 % shrinkage reduced with the increase in the employee engagement. 9.7 % reduction of waste and 9.6 % cash loss could also be saved by this (Garber, 2011). The two companies that is, Sainsburys and ECR jointly made the company understand about the important relation between enhancement of the business and the employee engagement. Because of this study, the company Sainsburys has came to know about the negative effects of demotivated and disengaged employees of the organization. Extrinsic And Intrinsic Techniques Of Employee Engagement Used In Sainsburys: Now a day, times have been changed a lot; thus, people are thought to be working in a leaner team rather than people working for job guarantee or security. With the evolution of the work forces, various factors came into role and various concepts of work have been changed. Like today people get bonus in the form of balance of the work life, or for job security but few years back it was a driver of work, such that for maximization of their earning by working all hours. There is a huge difference between the motivation of an individual and the engagement of an individual. Thus, a successful business can be established by offering initiatives with the aim of motivating the employees of the organization. There are usually two methods, extrinsic and intrinsic techniques of employee engagement. The method which will result into high performance for a specified time period, especially the short term is called extrinsic technique (Rivera, A. and Flinck, J. 2011). This technique can be made better understand by the explanation of an idiom which indicates that, the employee will work until there is a dangling carrot in front of them, as the dangling carrot is the motivation of work done by the employee. The technique used to get higher performance for a long term period, is called intrinsic technique of employee engagement. This is assumed that, intrinsic technique is present within an employee and not in the external forces like desire of achieving reward. Therefore, intrinsic technique raises the commitment of long term, satisfaction of employee and loyalty. Sainsbury incorporates both the intrinsic and extrinsic technique for employee engagement and motivation: Sainsbury incorporated the intrinsic technique by introducing the system of rewarding the employees with stars depending on individual work, performance and achievement. The more stars an employee can get, the more reward the employee will get at the end of the month. By incorporating the idea of stars, the employees got the motivation to perform well. It is not the reward in form of incentive or benefits but the number of stars the employee is getting mattered more. The stars urged the employees to perform better as it became a matter of prestige and gave the employees a feeling of achievement and motivated the employees to work for betterment. Sainsbury incorporated the extrinsic technique by implementing the provision of gifting the employees with bonus/scheme cards. These cards are initially deactivated. The cards will help the employees to avail a discount of 1000 on any product bought by the employees. It can be any commodity ranging from clothes, food items, health products and so on. Moreover there are in-store discounts available to the employees. With the idea of getting the discounts on products that they can avail if perform better, the employees got motivated and worked harder to achieve the goals for both personal benefit and benefit of the company. Findings: To enhance employee engagement, Sainsbury incorporates various intrinsic and extrinsic techniques, the key findings are: Sainsbury provides the employers with scheme cards, which are initially deactivated but once they buy any commodity, the employees can avail a discount of 1000 on the products. The employees can buy goods starting from clothes, food items, beauty products and so on. Sainsbury has incorporated the idea of awarding stars to the employees. The employee with highest number of starts will be rewarded. Hence, the employees develop a personal urge to work better in order to achieve the stars after the name rather than just the reward. Recommendations: Ways To Improve Employee Engagement: The employee engagement is largely contributed by the organization. As the growth of the company occurs, the numbers of people will also increases that will get interested and attracted to the company, and thus some of them would like to join the organization as an employee or want to be a part of the organization by becoming a loyal customer to it (J-sainsbury.co.uk, 2015). Any person before entering the job of a specified company, he would like to get a clear idea about the past, present and future position of the company and also about its reputation in the competitive market. Thus, the aim of an organization should be enhancement of the organization by increasing employee engagement. As employee engagement leads to the growth of a particular individual as an employee of that firm. There are other factors also which generally improves the engagement of employment within an organization. These are providing good amount of incentives to the works men, as it is the most common way t o motivate the employees, again, the healthy atmosphere of the organization is employee friendly, which also motivates the employee regarding the employment engagement, for example, maintain good and friendly relationship between the seniors and the juniors, maintaining trustworthy relationship between all the employees, maintaining healthy competition within the organization and many more helps to improve employee engagement within an organization . Sainsburys currently has employed around 11500 individuals of 60 years of age, according to some motivational theories, which would help the employees to motivate. Timely incentives and schemes of staff reward are provided by the company for more encouragement and interest of work within the employees. These rewards and incentives have increased the productivity of the company; sales revenue has also increased, and has inspired the work men for better performance . Condition free bonus cards are provided by the company for raising employee engagement. On these cards employees generally get a discount of up to amount 1100 on purchasing anything, starting from beauty products to clothes. All these are the various types of measures of improvement of the employee engagement within the company. But the company may include also other motivating theories for enhancement of the employee motivation and also for the employee engagement. Ways To Overcome Barriers To Implementing Employee Engagement: To increase the employee engagement within the organization is not very easy or simple thing, as all the employees might not like the particular way of employee engagement. Thus, it can be challenging for the authority of the organization to implement the employee engagement within the organization, especially if it is voluntary and informal. Thus the question may arise about the implementation of the employee engagement within the organization, as it is very important and necessary for growth and expansion of any organization in one hand and on the other hand it has various barriers and obstacles to implement it within the firm. Motivating people is not an easy matter as each and every people might get motivated by different factors. So for an organization to implement an average motivating factor is mandatory to make its employees more enthusiastic. Generally the influential factors vary from each individual to other . But some of the influential factors are organization culture, local relevance, meaningful involvement of employees, socializing and personal interest. Usually the organization motivators are working with other employees, recognition and achievement. An organization is an ideal place to start integrating sustainable thinking into operational aspects. By creating more sustainable organization culture, the management department of the firm can build the space and attitudes for more appropriate decisions, and also new innovative ideas. If the employees are encouraged throughout the organization, then employees behave in a sustainable way, rather than asking only some particular employees for cha nging their behavior regarding the organization. There are some strategic approaches to develop enthusiasm and motivation within the employees. Strategic planning is the best way to highlight the potentiality of the employees, or the actual weaknesses of the employees, or even the challenges which the management of a particular organization faces in implementing the employee engagement . Some of the ways to overcome the barriers of implementing the employee engagement are as follows: Local relevance the employees of an organization should identify the clear connection between the job activities and themselves. This connection will help them to understand their work importance for the betterment of the organization. A system should be build up which would create space for the employees of the local offices for the contribution regarding the common organizational objectives. But this would also allow making plan for office level and local autonomy. Official level engagement here focus is mainly on the construction and involvement of the meaningful employees. By involving all the employees a system should develop which would encourage the plan of sustainability by involving the whole office. This new system would increase the participation of the employees, by sharing various new ideas, by discussing with each other, solutions and collaboration. Celebration of success and recognition employees work hard for the fulfillment of the objective of the organization, thus in their success the company or the organization should celebrate it and make the employees recognized that they are the important part of the organization as without the employees the organization is not able to bring its business and also will not able to run in the competitive market . Feedback when a strategy is developed and implemented within the organization, then it is mandatory to monitor the working capability and in need, improvements can be done. Both formal and informal feedbacks should be applied alternatively for understanding the working strategy better. Fun factor sometimes through funny games and sports, the management of the company can bring in all the employees more closer to each other which would help them to know each other better. The major barrier of employee engagement is the management of the company. As the mangers think themselves to be most important part of an organization and their executive leadership seems to create an unfriendly working environment for the employees. Due to the designation the management department or the managers are in the top position of any organization, but the employees are the most important part of an organization as they only bring in the business .. Thus, this management hindrance should be cleared out by understanding themselves that the objectives of the organization can only be fulfilled by the employees only. Conclusion: Employee engagement has become a vital part of any organization. Now a day, every organization has a human resource department, thus, they better understand the employees of the organization and new measures in need could take place. But for any new implementation, the management of the company has to face various obstacles, similarly for implementation of employee engagement; the managers also have to face various barriers, but there aim should be to overcome these for betterment of both the employees and the organization as employee engagement brings in business.
